best summer ACTIVITY

Floating or paddle boarding down the Bow River is summer at its best—sunny skies, cool water, mountain views, and nonstop fun with friends. Spot wildlife, drift past city landmarks, or challenge your balance on a paddleboard. It’s the perfect mix of chill vibes and outdoor adventure in the heart of Alberta.

1. Choose Your Float Route

A popular and scenic route is from Bowness Park to Prince’s Island Park, typically taking 3 to 4 hours. This stretch offers a mix of gentle currents and beautiful city views.

2. Rent Your Equipment

Merlot House provides convenient raft and paddle board rentals.  Take the Jeep, park at Princess Island Park (don’t forget to pay on the app) and take an Uber with the equipment to Bowness Park!  Rental comes with life jackets and paddles.

Aim for a warm, sunny day with low wind. Avoid days following heavy rain or during spring runoff when river flow can be high.

3. Pack Essentials

Bring along:

  • Cooler (provided by Merlot House) full of fun drinks and snacks

  • Sunscreen and a hat for sun protection.

  • Waterproof phone case or dry bag.

  • Extra paddle (recommended).
